IPL 2025 Playoff Race: Qualification Scenarios for All 10 Teams Explained

Here's how the IPL 2025 playoff picture shapes up for each of the 10 competing teams:

As the tournament moves into its final stage, the competition for the IPL 2025 playoffs has gotten fiercer. Due to a wet outfield, Sunrisers Hyderabad's match against Delhi Capitals was called off, making them the third club to exit the IPL 2025 playoff race behind the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. Even though Royal Challengers Bangalore are presently the overwhelming favorites, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals are all in serious contention for the playoff positions, meanwhile, the battle for the top four spots remains open, with seven teams still in contention for a place in the IPL 2025 playoffs.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

Royal Challengers Bengaluru is well-positioned to secure a postseason berth in the IPL 2025 with 16 points from 11 games. With one victory from their remaining games, Rajat Patidar's team may virtually guarantee a Top 4 finish; two more wins would put them comfortably in the Top 2, giving them a significant edge in the qualifiers.

Punjab Kings (PBKS)

The playoff race tightened as Punjab Kings boosted their qualification chances with an important win over LSG. With three games remaining, two victories would all but ensure their spot in the Top 4.  PBKS could slip into the playoffs with just one more victory, but only if the Net Run Rate and other match results favor them.

The Mumbai Indians (MI)

The Mumbai Indians are playing at their best right now, winning six straight games to amass 14 points from 11 games.  Now with a solid lead in the playoff race, Hardik Pandya's team may guarantee their qualification with two more victories in the final three games.

The Gujarat Titans (GT)

With 14 points from just 10 games, the Gujarat Titans are still strong candidates.  With four games remaining, they only need two wins to guarantee a spot in the Top 4 and continue vying for a second IPL title.

The Delhi Capitals (DC)

Rain forced the cancellation of the Delhi Capitals' game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which hurt their hopes of making the playoffsThey are still in the running, though, as two victories in their last three games might, depending on other outcomes, keep them in the running for qualifying.

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

In all three of their remaining games, the Kolkata Knight Riders must win. Though qualifying will ultimately depend on their Net Run Rate and how opposing teams play in the closing stages, reaching 17 points could put them in the conversation for the Top 4.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

The Lucknow Super Giants face the most challenging path to the playoffs. To get to 16 points, they need to win all three of their remaining games, and even then, their progress will be largely determined by Net Run Rate and the results of other crucial games.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Following a run of poor performances and lost chances, the defending champion Chennai Super Kings are officially eliminated from the playoff chaseDespite moments of genius, CSK's IPL 2025 campaign fell short of a top-four finish due to their inability to remain consistentRebuilding and re-strategizing for the upcoming season will now be the main priorities.

The Rajasthan Royals (RR)

The Rajasthan Royals, who were once thought to be serious playoff candidates, were among the first teams eliminated.  A late-season downturn that resulted in them losing important games obscured a good start.  In the remaining games, RR will try to experiment with their bench strength now that the postseason door is closed.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

The Sunrisers  Hyderabad's hopes of making the playoffs were abruptly dashed when their game against the Delhi Capitals was canceled because of a soggy field.  This lack of success, when combined with earlier defeats, guaranteed their expulsion from the IPL.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Following a run of poor performances and lost chances, the reigning champion Chennai Super Kings are officially eliminated from the playoff chase.  Despite moments of genius, CSK's IPL 2025 campaign fell short of a top-four finish due to their inability to remain consistent.  Rebuilding and re-strategizing for the upcoming season will now be the main priorities. Who Is Still in the Running for the 2025 Indian Premier League Playoffs?

In summary, who is still vying for a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs?

2025 playoff race.  With this, SRH joins CSK and RR as the third team to be formally eliminated from the running. The IPL 2025 playoff race is intensifying as the league season draws to a close, with seven clubs still fighting for four precious spots:

  • One more victory would almost guarantee a Top 4 position for RCB, while two would guarantee a Top 2 finish.

  • With two victories needed to qualify, PBKS, MI, and GT are all in serious contention.

  • DC and KKR are still optimistic, but they need good outcomes and high net run rates to survive.

  • LSG has the most difficult task ahead of them; they must win all of their remaining games and have assistance from other results.

Officially eliminated from the race, CSK, RR, and SRH will now compete for pride and to deny others the opportunity to qualify for the playoffs.
